Recipe

Here is a recipe just for you, and in Laurie’s own words, “…here is a nice raw recipe I use for chelation.  Two teaspoons a day keeps the doctor away.”

Chelating Cilantro Pesto

Ingredients
2 Bunches of cilantro
2/3 cup Olive Oil
4 Cloves of garlic
1/3 cup Brazil nuts (selenium source)
1/3 cup Sunflower seeds (cysteine source)
1/3 cup Pumpkin seeds (zinc and magnesium source)
4 tbl Lemon juice (vitamin C source)
2 tsp Dulse powder (iodine source)
1-2 sprays Bragg’s liquid amino (optional)
Salt to taste
Directions – Process cilantro and oil in a food processor until cilantro is chopped. Add the garlic, nuts and seeds, dulse and lemon juice. Process until you have a finely blended paste.  Add salt and Bragg’s (if using). Store in glass container.  Eat 2 teaspoons a day for 1 to 3 weeks to assist your body in chelating heavy metals or just for it’s delicious taste! (By the way, we all pretty much have mercury, lead, etc….so this is a good thing for everyone…)

Tina and Laurie, thanks for the collaboration, the video, and the recipe. Laurie, thanks for sharing your before and after pictures and on your journey from chronic illness to chronic wellness. You look so healthy and vibrant now!

Your recipe raised some questions: What is chelating and why do we need it? What kind of heavy metal exposure do we need to pay attention to? Thanks for your post. Always leaning something new!

And Tina, I already have your new book and love it. I ordered the juicer you recommended a few weeks ago and it is on backorder. Hope to have it in October. :)

So happy to hear you love the Juice Yourself Healthy book Laurie!!!
Yes, see Laurie Erdman’s response/post on your chelation questions. Basically, it is a given that we all have some levels of heavy metals in our body through foods and environmental factors – some of us have more than others due to various treatments, dental work, etc. With that in mind, it is a great recipe for ALL of us to start enjoying! Who knew that “chelation” could be so yummy!! ;)
Thanks again for your “book luv” and your fabulous comment!

      xo, Tina

Love this post :) So much fun to collaborate.

Laurie, chelation is the process of removing heavy metals from our bodies. There are various ways to do it, some more gentle than others. I prefer to use food as much as possible. Both cilantro and parsley are great chelators, although cilantro is much more tasty in my opinion.

There are tons of heavy metals to be concerned about from mercury to lead. I tested for copper and cobalt a while back. Heavy metals are stored in fat and can obstruct neurological functions and create other problems. It’s a blog post in itself (not to self).

I believe in routine chelation, as well as periodic more intense cleanses to keep heavy metals moving out of my body.
