A SHORT EXCERPT FROM THE LIFESTYLER…

If you missed the The Lifestyler ezine, here is a short excerpt (skip on down to the HOT SELF CARE TIPS if desired/already read!)…
“What is self care? It is putting your health, needs and desires first…yes, before anything else. If you not operating from a place of health and taking care of yourself (self care), what good can you really be to others? What example are you really setting for those around you – children, grandchildren, spouse, clients?
Start with one thing. One ritual. Best of all – what you start with is your choice! Is it one green juice a day? Is it dry brushing? Is it writing in a new journal (see this week’s blog post!)? Is it starting a new exercise class? Is it ending a relationship that is no longer serving you? Is it a warm bath?
One thing. Big or small.
Self care. So important, yet so neglected. Change that pattern starting now.”
HOT SELF CARE TIPS
I have so many self-care tips – it’s kinda my thing. But my top one is 8 hours sleep each night. Everything else seems to flow from that. It’s sometimes easier said than done, especially in the summer, but uber important.

My top self-care tip: Radical Self-Approval!
Loving myself is the best thing I can do for me and everyone in my sphere of influence. No matter how wonderful, generous, mundane, or clumsy I may be — I always say to myself, “Gee, isn’t that cute!”

This is what I do….Every week I schedule “me” time to celebrate all that I’ve done. I do this celebration with intention, so whether it’s that I take the time to smell a freshly brewed cup of coffee, or I get a massage, I make sure, I’m totally in the moment, savoring what I’m doing and completely allowing myself to feel joyful and enjoy who I am and what I do.

I used to be driven. Then I pulled over. (inspired by a greeting card) My top self-care tip is to make a commitment to do something each day that qualifies as “play.” That can be play in my garden, play in my kitchen, play on facebook—doesn’t matter. I’m making up for YEARS of “all work and no play” and I’m loving every minute. I think I’ve grown younger as a result. LOL

Of all self-care tips, for me it all boils down to self-love. When I’m making decisions, preparing food, scheduling my calendar, writing for my biz, taking on new clients, having an important conversation…I do my best to behave in a way that opens me and brings me into a place of harmony. When I use self-love as my guidepost, all other decisions and actions either line up, or not. I move towards those things that line me up with “yummy.”

As a busy self-employed mom working from home I find I need 15-30 minutes a day to myself where I can just “be.” That means no dishes, no errands, no housework, no work, no computer…just being still and perhaps writing in a journal, listening to music or meditating. This short amount of time really helps me be present to my life the rest of my day.

I would say “laugh everyday”.

Call out your inner critic! This is a simple process of tracking and shining the light on those nasty things we tell ourselves when our mind is left unchecked. Simply dedicate a cute little note pad to jotting down the date/time/and thing you said to yourself that was less than savory, and watch that inner critic loose it’s power and melt away quickly + easily.

My number one self-care tip that is teach every single person I work with “Must Orient to Your Surroundings” (get out of your head and into the here and now). It’s what our brains are wired to find in order to feel a sense of safety, and us humans have completely lost this primal mechanism of orientation.

I love this post Tina. Self-care is so important to a healthy, vibrant life. I so agree with Kerrie – we have to start with Radical Self-Acceptance. It is from loving ourselves that we can care for ourselves.
Thanks Laurie! It is because of wonderful women (like yourself) that this post is so powerful…and I think will benefit each and every one of us in some way. Reading through each one has given me such a feeling of warmth. And empowerment.

Tina,
Thanks for this post. It has come at a time that I am re-evaluating me daily schedules and putting an emphasis back on taking care of myself first.
Heather….so glad to hear it….self care is soooo important, and yet so easy for us to let go of. It’s nice to be brought back to it…

I LOVE all these tips! It took me a long time to truly understand the value of self-care, so I have been making up for lost time and loving every minute of it!
The more I practice self-love, the more confident I become!
Tina, thanks to you and all of these lovely ladies for this great compilation! Lots of juicy ideas in here. My number one self-care practice is to breathe! When I breathe in and down, deeply, everything expands and everything feels lighter. My body relaxes, my feelings soften, my thoughts dissolve. Self-care is such an important topic and it affects all aspects of our health.
Lots of fantastic and easy to implement tips here. Thank you ladies.
Thank you Tina for reminding me that I can start with just one thing. One ritual. And that is already a step forward in my journey of self-care
Djanira! Thanks for the comment luv, and you are SO welcome!

Self care. It sounds so easy doesn’t it? I think we get so caught up in taking care of everyone else we forgot ourselves! Thank you for compiling these tips, Tina. They are lovely reminders that we need to take care care of ourselves in order to nurture and support others.

Tina,
this is so perfect!
I envision a little manifesto/e-book thingy coming out of this, very similar to what the big guns (the seth godin’s for example) have done with their posse of peeps.

Great post and self-care tips, Tina et. al! It’s so easy to forget the basics.
I’d like to add a tip: My single most important self-care tip is to eat well. To me, eating well means eating food that nourishes me, is delicious, that is safe for me to eat (I have food allergies), and that does not cause me to lose energy or health – but instead increases both.

I love these suggestions! Truly, great ideas, especially for someone like me who rarely takes time for themselves. For me, self care is a shower! LOL I love the journaling ideas, radical self-acceptance, and Alara’s goal to just laugh daily. Thank you so much for this post!

This is a great post Tina. I actually missed commenting to you because I was on my own self care trip. I went to the natural springs and did about 3 hours of silence and hot and cold baths. Self care is so important these days. I also like to recharge by taking small road trips. Love this.
Tina, these are great reminders, I especially love a bath with Epson Salts and my indulgence is going to Cafe Gratitude near my home and eating a meal of really great raw, whole food BY MYSELF while watching all the comings and goings. It feels like indulgence to do this once in a while, and I end it with either their amazing organic coffee with hazelnut milk or a shake called I AM Grace which is pure bliss, it feels like I am on another planet when I am there!

Tina, what a great and inspiring way of creating a post! I really enjoyed it. Being a guy and part Irish it is my natural tendency to want to self-destruct. This supported by a somewhat sobering family tree. For me that means I have to be even more aware how I care for myself both mentaly and physically. Personally, eating right and getting good workouts really has a huge impact, but I also like to take some quiet and reflective time to be grateful and appreciate who I am.

Fabulous post Tina! I loved all the tips!! It is so important for us to take care of ourselves, you feel so much more relaxed and happy when you do so. Awesome – nicely done! With a seven month old i can so use 8 hours of sleep, to me this would be priceless! *sigh* how your priorities change after you become a mom
…sleep…good!
